Episode 25 Archie Brooksbank ‘Bladesman Productions’ Pt 2

Episode 25 Archie Brooksbank Bladesman Productions Part 2

Welcome back to part 2 of this fun episode with Archie Brooksbank.

We dive straight into our fun feature on the show our ‘Rapid Fire Round’, where we put Archie on the spot with 10 very random questions.

On with the show and Archie tells us about a shoot he was on with the boxer ‘David Hayes’ where he accidentally stepped on his dog… the man wasn’t happy!

Are blue crocs the best shoe your feet can have to get the best feet party?

He shares how important it to wear a cravat or scarf to let people know you’re automatically creative.

Have DSLR’s and mirrorless stills cameras with great video features affected the moving image world of advertising, is there a place in our world now relevant for untapped creativity.

We talk about his documentary background and how working in tv has helped his story telling, and how shooting stills has really made him think more about his shots in moving image.

Archie shares some funny stories about filming with ACDC legend Brian Johnson, and the ‘Cars that Rock’ show.

BTS shots and video is becoming far more relevant for clients now, for ‘repurposing’ for other uses like social media.

We talk al little about Drones, or flying lawnmowers as Jake calls them, and how useful they are now.

A brilliant and very fun episode with Archie, who did so well under the pressures of Wayne & Jake, while suffering sleepless nights with a new born.. Congrats Archie!

Episode 22 Wayne Johns & Jake Hicks FILM IS NOT DEAD

Valentines Day Special with just Wayne Johns and Jake Hicks talking about everything analogue. Is film really dead?

Join Wayne and Jake as They discuss what role film and older analogue cameras has in todays photography market. Why should you pick up an old film camera? What are the benefits of going medium format over 35mm? Which medium format film camera should you jump in with?

We also get a little technical on the process involved of actually shooting film. What do we need to be aware of when shooting film over digital. Elements many modern photographers take for granted like adjusting the ISO, auto focus, White balance, and of course actually SEEING the image afterwards. How do we get some digital, sharable files from our film shots.
All of theses elements are major considerations in film, but are there actually any benefits to be had from shooting film beyond the simple ‘challenge’ itself? We take a step back from digital ‘perfection’ for a moment and embrace the ‘happy accidents’ that shooting with film can offer, and with it, the inevitable creativity that comes with that. If you’re feeling like your creatively and inspiration is waning, maybe it’s time to be inspired by film once again.

We also take a moment at the end to answer any listener questions with regards to film, but if you have any other questions about film and analogue that weren’t covered in this episode, we’d love to hear them.

Thanks for listening and don’t forget to leave a comment and like.

Episode 21 Alastair Jolly Lets talk SmugMug and Flickr

Alastair Jolly used to be a full time Wedding Photographer for 16 years, then left the industry, over 8 years ago, to take on the role of Global Marketing Manager for SmugMug, the very well known software company that provides website building and hosting services for Photographers and creatives.

A couple of years ago SmugMug purchased, or saved as Alastair liked to put it, the very well known photo social and sharing site Flickr.

Wayne and Jake dive a little into Alastair’s life as a photographer, we find out if being Scottish means you naturally like whisky, but we really get stuck into the world of SmugMug and Flickr.

Alastair tells us that both platforms are certainly very different and both offer users different tools for different things, but both support and compliment each other very well.

We were interested to see what SmugMug offers its users in terms of a website building and hosting platform and how easy it can be to create a beautiful looking website to share with the world and why it’s important to have that presence, and how they incorporate a print selling service into your website, than can help increase your profits.

Flickr are getting an upgrade, and we want to find out what’s happening, when and what it means for its 10’s of millions of users. Will the 2 platforms merge? Let’s find out!

Another thing that's come to our attention on the scene is SmugMug Films, let’s get into that one for sure, what’s it about and where can we see it…

Episode 014 Part 2 - Peter Coulson Fashion, Beauty, Fine Art Photographer - “More boobs on Buses”

Here's Episode 14 and part 2 of this very fun and truthful Photography and Video Podcast with guest Peter Coulson- where Wayne Johns and Jake Hicks go further into the business side of the industry with world renowned Fashion, Beauty and Fetish Photographer Peter Coulson.

Based in Melbourne, Australia, Peter is known for shooting beautiful black & white images and if you dive deep enough into his 'personal' work on his website you'll see a darker array of his personal projects which take a darker political side of the fine art world.

Peter is such a nice guy and holds nothing back about the way he works, what he likes and how he works. He shares with us, what sounds like the ultimate work, life balance in terms of what he shoots and how.

Is the age of the DSLR dead? - Peter gives us his views and doesn't hold back on the honesty!

How would you like to shoot 50% of your work as what ever you want to shoot, Peter does.

He's an educator, very active on 'Youtube' and often does 'live streams' to some of his shoots...

If you haven't taken a tour of his studio on youtube, make sure you do... although it might make you a little jealous, I know it did for me and Jake.

Such a fun episode and a two parter as well.

In all honesty, we could of talked with Peter for hours.
